New Delhi's Drug and Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) has voted to color code cosmetics. This isn’t anything new. However, it is a step in the right direction towards more transparency. The cosmetics industry of New Delhi will be required to clearly identify cosmetics as vegetarian or non-vegetarian in origin via colored dots.
Color coding cosmetics should be considered in the US. A possible coding system would be based on safety ratings established by peer reviewed research. Consumers don’t know how to read product ingredients or know much about the function of each ingredient. Simple colors are something that can easily assist with unmasking the truth about potentially harmful ingredients.
